Manual Machinist

Beltservice Corporation has an opening in our Machine Shop for a Manual Machinist on 1st shift (Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.). Our Machine Shop team is a critical support function for our daily production operation. We specialize in machining custom engineered parts for in-house equipment builds and repairs, making and repairing molds, and building and assembling specialty equipment for the business. The team partners closely with the Maintenance team as well as our Engineering team.

Responsibilities:

  • Operates and maintains manual machine shop equipment, including Lathes and Mills.
  • Reviews drawings & instructions.
  • Selects appropriate machine and machine setup for a given task.
  • Plans proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment.
  • Checks output for quality assurance.
  • Identifies need for and performs machine maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and organized workplace.
  • Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function. Overtime may be required at times.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; Industrial maintenance or technical coursework preferred.
  • Professional certifications are a plus.
  • Minimum 1 year of Manual Machining experience is required. CNC Experience is NOT applicable. Coursework may apply.
  • MIG welding experience a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Machinists are responsible for supplying their own core tools, including:
    • Basic Tools: Hammer, Wrenches, Screwdrivers, etc.
    • 1-3 Micrometer Set
    • Dept Micrometer
    • 6” and 12” Calipers
    • Dial indicator with 1” Travel
    • Dial test indicator
    • Inside micrometer or telescoping bore gage set
    • Combination square set, 12”.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
  • Excellent coordination and mechanical skills.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in basic math.
  • Basic computer competency.
  • Able to use and read non-digital micrometers and other measuring tools up to .0005” accuracy.
  • Use of common Power tools including drills, saws, angle grinder & impact driver
  • Familiar with machining properties of commonly machined materials such as steel, aluminum, and plastics like UHMW or Delrin.

Work Environment:

  • Primary: Air-Conditioned Machine Shop (Moderate noises, hearing protection required at times; steel toe shoes required at all times)
  • Secondary: Production Floor and Maintenance Shop (Moderate noises, hearing protection required at times; steel toe shoes required at all times)
